A LITTLE RANT

SO I HAVE BEEN THINKING LATELY ABOUT SOME STUFF. IT SEEMS I HAVE BEEN BOMBARDED LATELY WITH WOMEN THAT ARE "CRAFTY". I AM NOT ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE THAT CAN MAKE SOMETHING OUT OF NOTHING NOR DO I WISH I COULD. I DO NOT HAVE THE PATIENCE FOR SEWING, STAMPING, SCRAPBOOKING, PAPER CRAFTING & ANYTHING ELSE THAT INVOLVES A NEEDLE & THREAD, RIBBONS, GLUE, VINYL LETTERING ETC. I THINK IT'S GREAT IF YOU LOVE TO DO THAT KIND OF THING, JUST DON'T MAKE THE REST OF US FEEL DUMB IF WE CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO MAKE CURTAINS OUT OF AN OLD PAIR OF PANTS. I JUST CAN'T SEE IT AND I DON'T THINK I EVER WILL. I HAVE TO ADMIT WHEN I FIRST HAD MASON AND WAS NO LONGER WORKING, I THOUGHT I WAS JUST SUPPOSED TO START DOING THINGS LIKE THAT. CAMERON WOULD JUST LAUGH AT ME AND SAY "HONEY, IT'S JUST NOT YOU". HE IS RIGHT, IT'S NOT ME. SOMETIMES I FEEL LIKE A CRAPPY MOM BECAUSE I CAN'T MAKE MY KIDS CLOTHES, OR COME UP WITH "FUN" CRAFTS FOR THEM TO DO DURING THE DAY. MY IDEA OF KIDS CRAFTS IS A COLORING BOOK AND CRAYONS. SO FOR ALL OF YOU MOM'S LIKE ME OUT THERE,(I CAN'T BE THE ONLY ONE RIGHT?) DON'T FEEL SO BAD ABOUT YOURSELVES. OKAY, I'M DONE.

ha ha!!!! i think that is so funny! there are PLENTY of people out there that HATE to even touch anything that may look like a craft!! You are too funny!!! I think I may be the COMPLETE opposite!! I see something and instead of buying it I know that I can make it and so much cuter! But I will say that I have been this way my entire life, so don't you worry you can always call me to do a craft FOR you!!!! Well that is AFTER my house renovation is over! Hopefully soon!!! love ya! hope you and your cute family are doing well!!! Xo! Whit

Well, I'm not a mom, but I am so with you on that. If you ask me, the only thing needles are good for is jabbing myself in the finger, and glue just ends up sticking stuff together that doesn't belong together. Luckily for me, my mom is the queen of craftiness, so when I do have kids, they will just have to get their craft fix from grandma. She's already pretty much decorated my classroom for next year.

I knew we were friends for a reason. ;) I couldn't have said it better myself!

That was a little rant. And one that made me smile. I am the least creative person ever. But - I craft.

I had the hardest time going from working full time (at a job I LOVED) to having my first (now 6) and becoming a SAHM. I was so used to deadlines, appreciation, clear cut responsibilities, reaching goals and that satisfaction you get with all that paying job comes with. I always knew I wanted to be a SAHM - but when it came down to it, I really had to remind myself that staying home is what I want to do and that it would be the best thing for my family (not that it's the best thing for everyone's situation/family - I'm just talking about me here) after Jack was born and I stayed home full time - it took me a long time to figure out that I craved structure and accomplishment. It was then that I turned to the Dark Side - to crafting - and now blogging and FBing:)

Everything I make is someone else's idea - and I may tweak it a little b/c I am lazy and rebellious like that:) But, I don't feel any pressure to be crafty - whatsoever. I do it for myself. When I was going through the whole - what the heck do I do with all this time phase (when I only had 1 baby) I realized that my sanity depended on having something that was my own. I love my hubs and 3 kiddos like crazy - but I crave balance. Scrapbooking and paper crafting are beyond me. I do all my 'scrapbooking' online - no frills - just pictures to document the history of my family.

I hope you don't feel like I am one of the crazy crafties that make you feel like you have to craft. I think that as long as you, your hubs and kids are happy - it doesn't matter what you are doing. Fun crafts for the kids, sewing aprons - it's all a way for people to express themselves - for them to share their ideas or talent (or in my case plagarizing *even though I always try to give credit where credit is due*) isn't to make other people feel bad. My intentions (and I would guess most of the craft blogs I frequent) are like a supportive community for those that are interested - not a 'do this or you suck' blog. Ya know?

Woah. This is a novel. I think you are the sweetest, cutest, most loving wife and Mama - don't let anyone make you feel like you aren't doing a good job. If you kiss your 3 boys everyday and tell them that you love them - you are doing a heck of a lot better job than most Moms:)

Hope I didn't offend you and that I got my perspective across without making you feel worse. Do what makes you happy - don't worry about anyone else:) You ROCK - own it!

Ahhh - see? You are crafty - photography and restoring furniture - totally creative!
Brit is a great photographer (even though she loves to pretend that she isn't) she took my family pictures and did an amazing job - you should talk to her about where she is getting her photog tutorials (you can see her work on my blog - in June called SOOC and More SOOC) Have a great day lovin on that family of yours:)

I love you, girl. That's exactly how I feel. Whole family of crafty sisters but not me. Now give me some tools and a car to work on and I'm happy as can be. I'll find any excuse to get out of working on the scrapbooks. I always feel bad that my girls won't have fancy smancy scrapbooks like their cousins, but hey, they know who to call if their car breaks down. :D
